Salaam Dear Sister Ruth:
I cannot find an email address so I will leave this announcement about a Muslim Newspaper that has opened offices in Houston here, and you can delete it if you wish. But you should contact them, go to their party, and invite them to yours
Asalaam alaikum,
I am proud to announce that Iqra Newspaper has moved into a new office
in the South West part of Houston, ( Deen Media Inc. (Iqra) 10101 Harwin Dr.
Suite 345, Houston TX 77036)
We would like to serve our community in the most professional way
possible.
We will be sending out invitations for an open house soon. If you are
interested in attending, please send request to
contact@deenmedia.com | “Open House” (please place this in the
subject section), You will need to give us your full name, full
mailing address, telephone number and e-mail.
Here is a announcement we are working on.
It may sound a little corny but it this comes from the heart
(we will fine tune this, any ideas please let us know)What would be a
good title?
Iqra’s story is one that will remind you of the 1954 children’s novel
“The Little Engine That Could.†It is about humble beginnings and
triumphant endings.
The newspaper started in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was the first of
its kind in the Crescent City, and perhaps in the entire state of
Louisiana. Iqra’s support increased tremendously after the 2nd
edition was been published, and a local NBC affiliate ran a story on
the newspaper and founder (February 2005). Feel good stories about
Muslims were exceptions and not the norm. That was a huge
accomplishment considering the paper was not even a year old.
The third edition was just around the corner- and then came Katrina,
the hurricane of the century. The only remnants of the newspaper
was what the founder, Cara Karema Harpole was able to take with her
out of the city .
Houston’s arrival was by necessity and divine intervention. The
paper’s future was doubtful to many, but to Karema, it was just
another test of faith. She was in limbo for over 2 months, but soon
got back on her feet. Amatullah Abdullah, (managing director) was in
India at this point working in the background. It was determined
that the paper would keep an online presence at this stage. The
website gained many hits as Iqra’s Katrina story “The Eye of The
Storm†was circulated around the world, from Egypt to the UK.
Who would have thought that so much good could have come out of such a
tragedy?
Two years later Iqra! Newspaper established a permanent presence in
Houston, Texas.
Moving into an office is a huge accomplishment when considering its
humble beginnings. It takes a lot of faith and will power to make
such a commitment.
The organization, Deen Media Inc. (the parent company of Iqra
Newspaper) was incorporated and expanded its operations to include
audio, video, marketing consulting in addition to publishing. An open
house has been schedule for the end of the month (by invitation only).
For more information, do not hesitate to call.

The carnival I mention in my blog was several months ago, and I only mentioned it because Light of Islam had a table there. You’d have to contact the Bear Creek masjid directly to find out about their activities. But thanks for reading!
